December 2007
If you missed our quarterly luncheon, you missed a treat! SGTMAJOR Wimberly, USMC was our featured speaker and he was outstanding! Our thanks to him and to Vice President Pat Hoggard for a program we won’t soon forget.
I represented our Council at the Navy League of the U.S. Annual Convention in Desert Palms, California, early in November. It was an interesting meeting, especially when we were awarded three plaques for our perform-ance in 2006. We were designated an “Outstanding Council”, and received plaques for the “Highest Member Retention – Large Council” and “Second Place – Large Council Newsletter” Mackie Award. This last award is due to the outstanding, dedicated and continuing efforts of Bill McCathern and Jackie Willey in producing our monthly newsletter, the Lucky Bag. We were the only council to receive three major awards at the convention. As always, I was extremely proud to represent Richmond Council.
Our Annual Meeting is scheduled for January 10, 2008, at the Willow Oaks Country Club. We will also be celebrating a major event in the history of our council – our 50th Anniversary! Plan on attending and helping us celebrate this momentous occasion. It will be a festive and enjoyable time for all. Don’t miss it!
Before our next issue of the Lucky Bag, we will have celebrated Thanks-giving, Christmas, Hanukkah and several other special days, depending on your religion. Thanksgiving is a unique American holiday to give thanks for the many blessings we, as Americans, receive on a daily basis. We Americans have our challenges and problems but there is no better place to live in this world. Have a safe, joyful and blessed Holiday Season!
My Crowd at Last
by Anonymous
Theme: Community / Belonging
A stranger moved to a new city and started looking around for a church to join. He was about to give up finding just the right one until one Sunday he dropped into a church and heard the preacher say: “We have left undone the things we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done.”
The newcomer slipped into a pew, and with a sigh of relief, said to himself, “Thank goodness! I’ve found my crowd at last.”
