Navy Recruiting District Richmond, also known as the “Beast of the East” celebrated their fiscal year ‘07 accomplishments with an “All Hands” Award Ceremony and Banquet in Williamsburg, VA, November 8, 2007.
Fiscal year ‘07 was a very good year for Recruiting District Richmond; they met or exceeded all of their assigned goals; in fact, they did so well their goals for ‘08 have been increased by 300.
Council President Roy Martin and his wife Jean and Council Navy Recruiting Liaison Steve Zembroski and his wife Carol attended and presented awards from the Richmond Council Navy League to the Best of the Best, NC2 Trina Norman, Enlisted Program Recruiter of the Year from Navy Recruiting Station Annapolis, and SH2 Leroy Nowell, Jr., Reserve Program Recruiter of Year from Navy Recruiting Station Norfolk. The Council awards consist of a personal framed letter of accomplishments from the Governor, a recognition plaque from the Council, and a cash award from the Council.
Navy Recruiting is a large task. Finding Sailors, doctors, Chaplains takes a lot. There are 26 Navy recruiting districts throughout the U. S., Puerto Rico and Guam. Richmond is one of the districts with 44 recruiting stations and one headquarters building manned by 240 personnel, 85% Navy and some civilian support positions. The Richmond District covers all of Virginia, half of Maryland and a small part of North Carolina along the coast to Elizabeth City.
