Welcome to the Richmond Council, NLUS website.

The Richmond Council is composed of approximately 700 men and women who are interested in promoting the safety, welfare and future of the maritime forces of the United States. Membership is open to all patriotic Americans not on active military duty. Prior service in the Armed Forces is not a requirement for membership.

Objective and Purpose

The "Objective and Purpose" of the Navy League is educational - to inform the citizens of the United States as to the conditions of the naval and maritime forces and equipment; and to awaken interest and cooperation in all matters tending to aid, improve or develop their strength and efficiency. The National Headquarters has established the following objectives:

a) To foster and maintain interest in a strong Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine as integral parts of a sound National Defense and as being vital to the freedom of the United States.

b) To serve as a means of educating and informing the American people with regard to the role of Sea Power in the nuclear age and the problems involved in maintaining strong defenses in that age.

c) To improve the understanding and appreciation of those who wear the uniforms of our Armed Forces and to better the conditions under which they live and serve.

d) To improve support and recognition for the Reserve forces in our communities in order that we may continue to have a capable and responsive Reserve Force.

e) To educate and train our youth in customs and traditions of the Navy, the Marine Corps, the Coast Guard and the Merchant Marine through the means of an active and vigorous Naval Sea Cadet Corps program!
