USS Carter Hall (LSD 50)

Homecoming:USS Carter Hall (LSD 50)

November 7, 2007, the USS CARTER HALL returned from an eight-month deployment. This lengthy mission carried the crew of this great ship into the waters in and around the Horn of Africa. Their purpose in these waters was to represent the United States in a coalition fleet committed to attacking the piracy interest in the region. LSD-50 returns home having served this country with honor and excellence.

Throughout this deployment CDR McGovern had CARTER HALL ready to face any situation that might surface. However, while leading this ship into such a degree of readiness, he also focused on having CARTER HALL ready for future missions. Many long hours of maintenance were accomplished and because of this, LSD-50 will again fly the Stars and Stripes on the oceans of the world. It is interesting also to note that while in a high state of combat readiness, the family and friends back home were able to keep up with their loved ones aboard ship through CDR McGovern’s “Family Gram”. This was a weekly publication of the ship’s activities and a link to photos of the work and rest times of loved ones at sea.

CMC John Heistand is reaching his 30th year in the U.S. Navy. John has seen many of the oceans on this planet from the surface and beneath it, having served in the submarine service. He kept CARTER HALL at its peak performance in all situations.

The Tiger Cruise planned from Mayport to Little Creek was cancelled when CARTER HALL, nearing Mayport, was ordered to turn around and head for a position some five-hundred miles north of Bermuda to assist in a search and rescue mission. Once again, our ship responded to a call with skill and excellence. Welcome home CARTER HALL!!
