Casualty Decontamination Station (DECON) Latest Addition Aboard Nassau
20 MARCH 2007
ABOARD USS NASSAU
DECON provides safe areas for the ship’s Sailors and embarked Marines by creating contaminate-free zones aboard ships.
The decon station located in the ship’s flight deck triage area, adds to the capabilities that Nassau already has to offer. The Casualty Protective System plays a major part in the Navy’s defense against Chemical, Biological and Radiological weapons.
Several Council Directors had the opportunity to see a training exercise aboard Nassau and view the ship’s Damage Control Central and Medical team in action.

Council Bids Farewell to USS Nassau’s “Top Guns”
FRIDAY, 25 MAY 2007
In the weeks ahead USS Nassau will see a change of her Commanding Officer, the Executive Officer and her Command Master Chief. Since adopting Nassau, Council has enjoyed a close relationship with Captain Roberti, Captain Gary Boardman, and CMC Rick Markowski. They have always extended “red-carpet” treatment to Council members on their visits to the ship. Each of these fine gentlemen will be receiving (or have already received) orders transferring them to new commands. Fortunately, each will be stationed in the Norfolk area where we can remain in touch in the months ahead.
During the last week in May, several Council Directors were involved in the delivery of four 31" TV sets to be installed aboard Nassau in the Marine Corps quarters of the ship. The request for additional TV sets came from Captain Joseph Lindsey, III, USMC, who serves aboard Nassau as her Combat Cargo Officer. Before leaving the Little Creek Base, the Marines expressed thanks to members of the Richmond Council and presented the Council with a handsome plaque, which is now proudly on display in the Navy League office.
During this visit, Council’s Liaisons to the ship, Joe Moschetti and Dave Vachet were joined by Tom Hassell and Ed Gibbons in the presentation of the four TV sets and in accepting the plaque from the Marines, on behalf of members of the Richmond Council.

Council Delivers 42" TV
to USS Nassau for
Female Lounge Area
27 February 2007
Aboard USS Nassau

Following the delivery of a large flat-screen TV to Nassau in the fall of 2006 (installed in the enlisted men’s lounge), Council received a request for a second TV to be installed in the female lounge.
Council’s Liaisons with Nassau (Dave Vachet and Joe Moschetti) acted promptly to accommodate the request and delivery of the second flat-screen 42" TV arrived aboard ship late February 2007.
USS Nassau’s Commanding Officer, Captain John Roberti, and her Executive Officer, CDR Gary Boardman, and CMDCM Richard S. Makowski were most appreciative and expressed thanks to all Council members for their on-going support of the men and women serving aboard Nassau.
On hand to complete the delivery of the new TV were Council Directors Dave Vachet, Tom Hassell and Ed Gibbons. Special thanks to Captain Roberti who provided a tour of the ship and a delightful lunch with CDR Boardman and several members of the ship’s staff before our group departed.
